Habitat restoration - plant focus |
Stewart Island/Rakiura Community and Environment Trust (SIRECT) undertake a habitat restoration project in Halfmoon Bay, Stewart Island.
|
This aims to protect vulnerable bird and plant species, unique to New Zealand and to Stewart Island.
The project needs help to achieve its goals. This week is focused on Stewart Island flora and re-vegetation of iconic Bays with native plants. The work would include: - Re-vegetation of the iconic Lonnekers Bay and Harold's Bay areas on Ackers peninsula. Including pulling weeds, laying weed-mat and planting unique native coastal plants. - Controlling foreign invasive weed species from smothering and jeopardising native forest cover. - Grow native plants at the community native nursery.
Help at all the stages of propagation and potting up small seedlings that will be used to re-vegetate and replace weed species around the township.
