Social Media Marketing is basically networking on the internet to connect with a whole new audience....both overseas and right here in New Zealand.
Kerri Tilby from Exult has written numerous articles about Social Media, covering some of the frequent questions. One such question is how much time does it take to make it worthwhile?
Kerri says online networking is similar to the real world in that you need regular contact in order to develop a relationship, but you don't have to be constantly in that conversation.
"I suggest people try to set aside a specific time period each day to attend to their social media and then leave it at that. Many people I know allow 15 minutes at the start and at the end of the day to make a couple of updates and respond to any direct messages, and then leave it at that," says Kerri.
When choosing which social media site to use - Facebook, Twitter, Bebo etc - Kerri suggests talking to friends and colleagues about what site they use and then join there first.
"By becoming their friend, fan or follower you'll be able to watch and learn as you go, Then, if you want to, you can join other social media sites as well."
